Welcome to Boondogs World! Location:Where ever I am its the coolest place to be. Truth be known, Im a transplanted New Englander living in the Pacific Northwest - when Im not on the road, capturing the beauty of the world around us! Interests:Photographing Life, the amazing potential of the world-wide web, music that moves me and a long run on a seaside trail. My familys 15th Century motto:"Medio Tutissimus Ibis..." Translated-"Everything in Moderation." I try to live this by supplementing it with a prophetic quote from "The Doors" Jim Morrison... "I dont know whats gonna happen man, but I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames."

- 3-Where in the World is Boondog?
Boondog's Great Adventures..."So many things can get you high. I'm gonna try em all just once before I die" (Hagar lyrics-"There's only one way to Rock") I've been blessed with the opportunity to travel the world... 17 countries and ALL 50 U.S. States! (as of Nov2010, latest and final state-Arkansas)
If you're looking for artistic, high quality images - you've come to the wrong album. This is simply a "been there, done that" photo journal. To some of these 'typical tourist' shots you'll say, "I've been there!" While other images will prompt the question..."Where in the world is Boondog?"
I have discovered every state in this great country has something making it worth a visit. My best advice - rather then stereotyping people from afar, because they are from "that part of the country," go forth and experience those other people and places. I'm grateful to the U.S. Military for a career that has granted me the opportunities to travel and keep it real, amongst a nation full of diversity and never-ending Bucket List adventures. Today, the U.S.A. Tomorrow, the world. There are 196 countries on this planet, and I've only been to 17 of them...

Boondog's great adventures include "chasing lighthouses"...Why Lighthouses? Why Not! The mysterious allure of the sea, the fascinating history of Lighthouse Keepers, the serenity, comfort and spirituality of a desolate "guiding light in times of forboding darkness..." There are approximately 730 U.S. lighthouses remaining…I may not see them all, but it sure is fun trying! So far, 275 and counting...+64 international lights. 339 Lights worldwide. Radars, Aircraft & Other Cool Things That Keep the Peace!
RADAR-Radio Detection and Ranging, has been my occupation for over 30 years-serving on Air Force active-duty, as an Air National Guardsman and now as an Air Force Civilian. Through the years, those of us in the radar business were proudly referred to as "scope dopes" and carried career field codes of "276, 277" and "1C5." I've mobilized in the mud of Europe during the Cold War, tracked space objects from remote arctic locations and helped fight the drug-war along US borders. A "new world order" put Scope Dopes in the sandbox of the Middle East. But since '9-11,' our vital mission of radar and air defense has a whole new and much more personal motivation - Homeland Defense for America. A crucial role that I am proud to be associated with.

Sometimes I enter my photos in contests because I believe it's a potential Photo of the Day (POD) winner. But most times I simply desire to entertain my fellow photographers. Their feedback always enlightens me. Here are some of my all-time favorite images. What constitutes a favorite? It could be artistically appealing, but more importantly, it conjures up emotions and captures a memorable snapshot of life.
Recipe for a great picture... right place/right time, quality equipment, wild imagination, lot's of patience and no limit on number of shots taken!

- 8-Lighthouses:Personal Favorites (PODs)
"Why are you fascinated with silly old lighthouses?"
The allure and magic of the sea. I grew up in New England, fascinated by the sea along the coasts of Maine and Rhode Island. It was the mighty Atlantic Ocean that I first developed a passion for. This led to an appreciation and respect for the comfort and security of lighthouses.
The photographic appeal. I fancy myself to be a land/seascape photographer and lighthouses are in some of the most beautiful locations.
Opportunities present themselves. My career in the Air Force involved Air Defense, now Homeland Defense. A big part of protecting our borders involves radars and early-warning systems, which I frequently visit. Hmm, what else provides safety and security of our borders..? I’m blessed with the opportunity to travel all over the country for work…and take full advantage of visiting the lighthouses along the way.
Maritime History and Preservation. My passion for photography is driven in large part by a desire and fascination with capturing history. Lighthouses have some of the most intriguing historic stories. Incredible feats of engineering, heroic rescues by the Keepers of the light and the absolute reliance on lighthouses for navigating the seas and waterways, before technology made them obsolete. Though in many cases they are no longer required for navigation, lighthouses are monuments to our past that should be preserved. Sadly, many of them have been, and continue to be lost to natural and man-made incursion. We all have a responsibility to remember and preserve aspects of our American history. I just happen to choose lighthouses. My small contribution is to preserve our lighthouse history through photography.
My competitive nature. There are approximately 739 U.S. lighthouses remaining…I may not see them all, but it sure is fun trying! So far, 274 and counting...+64 international lights. 338 Lights worldwide. (latest-Massachusetts, oct2011)
Everyone should have a passion for something. As a kid, for me it was baseball cards and comic books. As an adult, it’s lighthouses. What ever you choose, immerse yourself – feel the passion!
The albums within "Lighthouses:Personal Fav's" contain some of my all-time favorite lighthouse images, and many Photo-of-the-Day (POD)s that I've entered in photography contests. What constitutes a favorite LH image? It could be artistically appealing, but more importantly, it conjures up sentimental emotions and captures a memorable snapshot of life at a lighthouse. Recipe for a great picture... right place/right time, quality equipment, wild imagination, lot's of patience and no limit on number of shots taken!

- Lighthouse Lens - Fresnel Lights the Way
Beautiful, sweeping seascapes and impressive designs aren't the only wonderful aspects of a lighthouse that make being a "Pharologist" such fun. Tragically, many lighthouses and particularly their unique lens are fading away - overcome by time and technology. Preservation through photography is one way to keep them alive. This album inspired by my fellow LH explorer and friend Ken, who taught me to appreciate more than just the lighthouse landscape. This album also dedicated to the heart and soul of lighthouses - Augustine Fresnel, a French physicist who in 1822 invented the Fresnel Lens. Finally, a salute to the men and women of the U.S. Lighthouse Service. Automation and technology have long since made lightkeepers and Fresnel Lens obsolete. However, the life-saving service they provided should never be forgotten.
